Monday, July 15th

This morning we discussed about mobile learning. Here is the definition from Mike's slides:

Mobile learning: the use of mobile or wireless devices for the purpose of learning while on the move.
e.g. cell phones, smart phones, laptops, tablets, personal media players

Since I had just bought my first smartphone two weeks ago, I haven't had a chance to use the device as a learning tool. However, while I was travelling in Asia this summer, I got lost countless times in unfamiliar places. During these times, I thought how helpful it would be to have a smartphone to help me navigate, and also find information about the area I was in.

In a classroom setting, I have seen students use laptops and tablets to go onto websites such as the Khan Academy, to develop skills at individual paces. This way, I believe that when used wisely, mobile learning enables students to access information which fit the unique needs of each student. Moreover, students can also actively contribute information to the web as they gain new information.
